I absolutely LOVE this weeks trigger for a variety of reasons. First of all that cake looks divine and yes I would like to eat it. Secondly I love the bold black lines….I’m a huge fan of outlining to make things pop so this was right up my alley. Last of all the soft pinks and blues are probably my FAVORITE colors to work with. My inspiration for this card came on a trip to the craft store. Although I was only there to pick up cardstock to fill a last-minute order of over 50 thank you notes for the kid’s party planning company I freelance for I couldn’t resist going down the stamp aisle to snoop out new stamps. Per usual I walked in for one thing and left with an armload of supplies.
I spied the stamp I used for the background and just had to have it (“variety and quality” from Hero Arts)…plus all stamps were 25% off (BONUS!!). The bird caught my eye next…I’ve been having a bird stamp fetish lately and he reminded me of the birds in Disney’s Alice in Wonderland (one of my all time favorite movies). He is from the “Time Flies” set from Graphic 45(Hampton Art). I stamped and embossed the bird in 3 colors of distress ink Black Soot, Broken China, and Worn Lipstick. I used fantastix and distress ink to highlight key areas in the background. It’s kind of hard to see in the photo but I used a blue swarovski crystal and some black wire for the flag pole. I wanted to imitate a vintage stick pin to go with the theme of the background. The faceted brads attached to the corners were meant to play off the faceted stones on the cake plate. Finally I dusted the die cuts on the bottom of the card with perfect pearls to give them a little sparkle. I apologize for the shaky photo….probably should have skipped that 3rd cup of coffee.
