Hey there crafty friends the Elf on the Shelf is getting crafty up in here! It’s become a tradition here at Plucking Daisies that when the elf comes to town he creates a project and writes a post for me. How nice of him. Now if I could only get him to clean my studio I wouldn’t mind him sticking around all year-long.
I’ve been super busy (who isn’t this time of year am I right?) so I was thrilled to bits that Elmer the elf took over posting for me on my new site The Artists on the Block. Have you stopped by yet? Well what are you waiting for? Go check out The Artists on the Block and get in on the Artist Trading Block action. ATBs are the latest and greatest art form. Heck even Elves can make them!
This year I made a big display of the elf on the shelf’s return by having him shipped from the “North Pole”. I followed my own advice (as discussed in my Surviving Elf on the Shelf without losing your mind guide) and had him show up fashionably late on December 11.
The Elf arrived in St. Nick style with cute snowman address labels created from the Tim Holtz Sizzix Snow man my friend Stamping Sue was kind enough to cut for me. She also sent me a beautiful Birthday card…Thanks Sue!
In my haste to address the elf package from the North Pole I accidentally wrote an “R” instead of a “C”…I was going for “Arctic” but instead I wrote the abbreviation for “Arkansas”. Luckily my son hasn’t covered state abbreviations in school yet.
Despite my Geographical flub my son was delighted to receive a package from the “North Pole, Arkansas”.
Elves and Birthdays Don’t Mix
The next day was my Birthday and little man had high hopes that Elmer would do something special for me. Wanna know what Elmer gave me?
He gave me a frickin’ heart attack at 5 am when I woke with a start remembering I had forgotten to move the elf on day 1!
This is what waking up at 5 am on your Birthday looks like. Yup! Soak it in. Happy Birthday to me from the stupid Elf “plopped” on a shelf with 2 week old, deflated Birthday balloons. Do you think he’s sorry I tripped over the coffee table? I can assure you he’s not. Just look at his face, he’s mocking me.
Luckily I was assisted by some in-house elves with a friendly/creepy reminder when I returned home that night from my Birthday dinner.
After nearly ruining the Christmas Magic straight out of the gates I was oh so grateful for this little nudge. Thanks ma’!
What every Idyllic Christmas Village needs is some Elf action! This is an easy move sure to delight the kids. Just plop him on top of a house and watch the porcelain Carolers head for the hills.
“Step aside citizens, Elf-zilla is coming to get you!” ” Hide yo kids, hide you wife cuz’ I’m spreadin’ the Christmas Cheer up in here!” “Mwaaaa ha ha!”
Beats by Elmer
This is the Lazy Elf movers version of “Elves like ‘Wrap’ Music”. There is a much cuter (and nicer photograph) of this idea on my Elf Pinterest board.
To make this lazy version of “Elves like Wrap Music” just shove the elf into a wrapping paper tube and slap a pair of head phones on him or her. If you want to go the extra mile write a note that says “Hey what’s your name, Did you know Elves like Wrap Music? BT Dubs, do you have any Flo-Sleigh-Rida?” If your kids are hip and in the now they’ll get it.
Someone’s in the Kitchen with Elmer
Well isn’t this charming? The Elf on the Shelf is baking cookies in the Easy-Bake ATB Oven! (see how to make it HERE)
Oooh and Aaah all you want, but don’t ask me to re-photograph this scene EVER! Do you know how hard it is to pose this guy? It’s a pain in the…”Ask me no more questions” and causes me to lay down strips of colorful language like, Mother…”of Pearl” and Son of a “Biscuit”! And then the Orbit gum lady shows up and says “Dirty Mouth? Clean it up!” and offers me a stick of gum.
PS our elf on the shelf does NOT have bendy arms and legs. Sewing is not in my wheel house.
