The Hubs had asked me (last-minute of course) to make a small paper flower arrangement for a co-workers wife, hosting his company’s summer picnic. It had to be small with such short notice since my larger arrangements take days to create and I had mere hours to get this done. This paper flower arrangement needed to pull double duty as a hostess gift and belated house-warming gift. I recently created a set of Alice in Wonderland altered tea cups and decided to go with an altered tea-cup theme again .
I went to the local thrift shop hoping to find a vintage tea-cup suitable for the Lemon Flower paper from DCWV I would be using to create the arrangement…the same paper I used to create this Lemon Flower Hair Accessory…..I absolutely love this paper! I wasn’t sure of the hostess’s decorating style so I wanted to come up with a somewhat neutral color pallet. Yellow flowers, green flowers, black flowers, silver flowers…that’s neutral enough right? Ok maybe not but at least the tea-cup is white….it doesn’t get any more neutral than that!
The tea-cup and saucer are a mismatched set but came together in such sweet harmony for this arrangement. The embellished saucer plays off the patterned paper flowers perfectly and the white tea-cup allows the flowers to take center stage. I love the soft wavy lines on the tea-cup and how they add subtle texture to the design. Even better the ceramic is crazed to perfection which adds to the vintage look I was going for.
I just love the color combination of Yellow, black, silver and green flowers! I used Distress inks to color the white side of the paper and alternated between solid and patterned petals.
You can really see how the silver on the petals plays off the embellished saucer here. I managed to snag quite a few mismatched saucers and tea cups so future altered tea-cup flower arrangements are on the horizon.
I wasn’t sure if the hostess was a tea or coffee drinker so I used a mix of river stones to be interpreted by the recipient. Latte, Tea, Coffee, Espresso? I also added this custom “Tea Tag” with my logo (shameless self promotion) which ties the tea theme together. I’m quite pleased with the result of this unique housewarming gift….what could be better than a blossoming cup of tea?
Thanks for checking out my creation…love hearing your thoughts! Hope your day is full of loveliness!
