It was mid August when my husband and I took our 6 yr old out to lunch. Our favorite lunch spot is “inconveniently” located right next to GameStop. Of course little man asked if we could go into GameStop. “Just to look,” I said. We were looking at the Skylanders when one of the employees came over and asked if we would like to put the new Skylanders Giants game on hold. Yes of course we do! (I learned my lesson last Christmas) That was the day little man decided he wanted a Skylanders birthday party.
I wondered how on earth I would ever pull this one off since Skylanders party supplies are few and far between. Not to mention that my son’s “bar” for birthday parties is very high due to the Mario Party I threw for him a few years ago. I never thought I could top the Mario Party but I think I just might “raise the bar” with the Skylanders party I have planned. . Get ready for a DIY journey to the Skylands where you can save Eon from Kaos and your wallet from overpriced party supplies! Over the next few weeks I’ll be showing you how to create everything you need for a Skylanders bash with household items and a few trips to the dollar store.
Here are a few sneak peeks to wet your whistle…
Yes, there will be Chompies, Troll Bombs, Legendary Treasure, Trigger Happy’s Golden Guns and much, much more! I’m quite proud of the Chompies and will be showing you how to create them and lots of other Skylander items in my Skylanders Party series.
I’ve been so busy making Chompies and Skylander party games I knew I wouldn’t have time to make invitations. Not to worry I found an Etsy shop for that!
I fell in love with these ticket style Skylanders party invitations from A lil’ Frosting Shop. The stickers are cupcake toppers (also from A lil’ Frosting Shop) that I ran through my Xyron and cut with a Fiskars Scallop Circle Punch. Kristine is a pleasure to work with and has many fun options available for all your party needs so be sure to check out her shop A lil’ Frosting.
I wanted to include a note to the parents but couldn’t fit it on the back of the ticket invitations. I found some cool Skylanders free printables at Houseparty.com that I was able to create Skylanders note paper with.
I was planning on making masks for the kids so they could BE Skylanders but due to time constraints that idea went to the wayside. Instead of masks, I found these awesome VIP pass lanyards from Reelpartyinvitations.com These are such a nice complement to the ticket style invitations and will allow the kids to play a Skylander character without a ton of extra work for me!
The personalized Skylanders Giants T-shirt is also from Reelpartyinvitations.com. They have many characters and styles to choose from. I have to say I was blown away by the service I received from Reelpartyinvitations. They were so helpful and easy to work with. Not to mention my order arrived so fast it was like it was transported through the computer!
I gave little man his present a few weeks early so he could impress his friends with his Skylanders Giants Skills come party time! Plus I was up with the birds hunting down limited releases and exclusive characters the day it came out and really wanted to see that smile on his face that always comes with a shiny new toy
Even though we already have the portal I bought the set that came with one anyway to get the extra Skylanders. I’m so glad I did! For $15 more than the “Portal Owners Pack” you get two extra Skylanders and the extra portal. The new portal kicks the old ones butt! Not only does it plug-in (which pays for itself in battery cost alone) but the whole thing lights up! The new Giants Skylanders Light up as well and they are also offering a bunch of “Light Core” Skylanders that light up too!
The Skylanders craze has brought me back to the days of “Masters of the Universe” and I now know what my mother went through during the Cabbage Patch Craze of 83′. This is where I have been “hanging out” the past few days…
Just me and the birds waiting for them to open the doors! I’ll have more Skylanders fun coming at ya’ real soon so stay tuned! If you are planning a Skylanders Party for your little portal master check out my Skylanders Party Pinboard for more tips and ideas!
Have a “Shiny new Toy” kind of day!
