Today was a sad day here in Connecticut. It has been one week since the tragic shooting occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School that has left 26 families, the community of Newtown, Connecticut and our nation forever changed. Not a day has gone by that I haven’t cried. My heart hurts for these families who have suffered a loss so great. Although I did not know any of the victims personally I know many who did.
Everyone has been touched by this event in some way, shape or form. We’ve all had to work through sadness and anger…myself included. My mother always tells me that “You can’t fight evil with hate, you can only fight evil with love.” That’s why I created this tree. It’s a tree of life. I want to celebrate the lives of those that were lost on December 14, 2012. I want to honor them and remember them.
This is my way of showing my love for the heroic teachers who gave their lives to save the other children, love for the little angels that were taken from this earth too soon, love for the families who are hurting, and love for the community of Newtown who are broken-hearted but not broken. Evil cannot break them as long as there is love. The outpouring of love and support for Newtown from around the globe is evidence of this
20 little angels received their wings last Friday. 20 little birds are soaring up in heaven. Each child is represented on this tree of life by a sparkling, shining bird. They all sparkle and twinkle in the light. Though they were taken much too soon the light of each of these little ones shines on.
The teachers are represented by flowers. These heroic women devoted their lives to shape the minds of young people and help them to bloom and grow. Now it is they that are blooming bright and beautiful up in heaven. We will never forget their sacrifice. They are the greatest example of love.
