Hello friends! Hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend! If you are on the East Coast like me you’re probably irritated by the impending snow storm, but look on the bright side it’s a good excuse to hunker down and make some art or at the very least curl up with a good book. Today I have another piece of wall art to share for the LESSology challenge.
I picked up this smaller canvas in a pack of 2 for about $5 at Michael’s. Stay tuned for what I’ve created with the second one To start I sketched out my design for the mirror directly on the canvas and taped it off. The background was spray painted with a mix of Krylon Blue’s a dash of pink and a few quick pops of Krylon Metallic silver. I removed the tape around the mirror and covered the background and spray painted the shape of the mirror with Krylon Mountain View. The Mirror portion was spray painted with Krylon Metallic. Black and silver Sharpies were used for the outline and detailing…I drink a lot of coffee and find that Sharpie’s are easier for me to control than a paint brush.
The idea for this project came from this awesome image I clipped from an old Kool’s ad (you know it’s old because cigarette ads are taboo these days). I was flipping through my magazine collection in search of art for another project when I found this. I have an extensive “collection” of magazines. I keep them at the ready for collages and mixed media projects. As I’ve said before I am a collector NOT a hoarder….you never know when something might come in handy.
How cool is this image? I rest my case Another thing collected magazines are good for….channeling your inner psycho and clipping letters out like I did with the “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall” text. Make sure you wear gloves so you don’t leave finger prints The letters and the face were Mod Podged to the canvas. I added a few mirror mosaic tiles to highlight some of the words and to finished it off with a few glitter paint swirls .
This piece will hang in the hallway. It is customary to have a mirror for last-minute checks before leaving the house plus this one answers questions…Mwahh ha ha!
Thanks for hanging with me today come back soon to see more of my “Hall” art!
