I recently received a big ‘ol box filled with gorgeousness from the David Tutera Bridal collection. This package of DIY wedding supplies could not have come at a better time since my best friend is tying the knot the end of May. She is planning a DIY wedding (with my help) and the box of David Tutera Bridal supplies helped us tremendously. By the time the bride to be and I had finished going through the collection our heads were swimming with ideas! These ideas quickly turned into projects.
This DIY Chalkboard sign of love is the first of many DIY wedding projects to come using items from the David Tutera Bridal collection. David’s collection makes it easy for the DIY bride to create anything wedding related from centerpieces, bouquets, decor and beyond on a budget. You can save your cash for the honeymoon without sacrificing elegance at your wedding day bash!
To create these faux Chalkboard Love signs I used table numbers and supports from the David Tutera Bridal Collection. The table numbers would have worked wonderfully on their own but my eager beaver bride-to-be buddy had already ordered table numbers. Not wanting these lovely little “numbers” to go to waste we decided to use them to set the mood for love around the room with chalkboard love quotes.
It turns out that the Sizzix Alterations Ornamental die was a perfect match to the shape of the Table numbers! The David Tutera Table numbers were easily transformed into ornate frames for our chalkboard signs!
STEP 1 Faux Chalkboard Base- Cut Black chipboard with Sizzix Alterations Ornamental Die. *You will need one die cut for each side .
*I used my Xyron Creatopia to turn my signs into giant stickers but a glue stick will work just fine as well.
STEP 2 Lettering- Sketch out your lettering in pencil first! Use a ruler or T-square to keep your lines straight. You can even pencil in lines if you wish and erase them later. I wish I had done this. As you can see my cursive is a little rusty. (Forgive me Sister Mary Francis!)
STEP 3 Faux Chalk- Using the bullet tip end of a Picket Fence Distress Marker go over your pencil outline. *The ink will take a few seconds to appear…the Picket Fence Distress Marker is by far my favorite marker for faux Chalk art.
STEP 4 Detailing- If you like the look of the Distress Marker on its own by all means leave it. If you are like me and can’t EVER leave well enough alone go ahead and add some detailing with Sakura Gelly Roll pens. I enhanced the white lettering with a white Gelly roll pen and added a shimmery shadow with Silver Stardust Gelly roll pen.
*Once your ink is dry erase any stray pencil marks with a kneaded eraser
STEP 5 Embellishments- To add a little sparkle and a touch of elegance to the chalkboard love signs I used David Tutera Self Stick Tear Drop Rhinestones.
I’ll be creating more of these faux chalkboard signs for uses other than love quotes in the coming weeks. We will be using them to display signature cocktails at the bar and to instruct guests how to sign our unique guest book. All of these ideas and more will be coming soon so stay tuned!
