This Christening card was inspired by the “All White” challenge over at Allsorts. This was quite the challenge indeed. I struggle with white. I don’t like to wear it and I certainly do not like to draw it (still having nightmares about an art school project that required drawing styrofoam sculptures…Holy shadows Batman!). So needless to say creating a card using all white save a colored image was difficult for me. However, an old friend of mine is having her son christened this weekend and whenever I think of religious occasions I think of white so I used that as a starting point.
The base of the card is white shimmer card stock. The second layer is from the “Luxury Collection” from DCWV…this paper has been in my stash for ages…leftover from a wedding scrapbook I made. I was happy to be able to finally use it again since it is definitely too formal for everyday…I like how it adds some interest to the white on white design. The scalloped layer I embossed and cut with deckle scissors. The image and sentiment were stamped with Weathered Wood Distress Ink and embossed. I then used a scallop circle punch to the lamb image and fussy cut the moon and stars. I colored the images in with distress in (Broken China and Antique Linen). To add shine I went over the image with perfect pearls…”Blush” and “Turquoise” for the Lamb and “Blue Patina” for the background. For the moon and stars I used “Turquoise” and “Heirloom Gold”. I haven’t used my Perfect Pearls to much so this was a fun experiment for me. When all was said and done the lamb just wasn’t “wooly” enough for my liking so I added some chunky and fine white glitter to fluff him up. Lambs must be wooly they must!!
I mounted everything on foam dots and attached the personalized sentiment with some tiny star brads.
In the end I was very happy I played along for this challenge not only did it force me out of my comfort zone but I was able to make a beautiful christening card and personalize it to boot!
