CHA 2014 Recap: Top Product Picks, a Giveaway and More!

by Amy Bowerman

I’ve procrastinated writing this post for days!  At long last my final CHA Show Recap is here, complete with MY top product picks, not one but TWO giveaways and a shout out to some of the fabulous folks I met at CHA.  I won’t waste anymore time getting this show on the road so let’s get to it!

CHA 2014 Recap: Top Product Picks, a Giveaway and More! | Pluckingdaisies.com #CHAShow

Top Product Picks

My absolute tippity TOP favorite product is this magical stuff from Indigo Blu…Flitter Glue!  It’s something you have to see to believe!  Luckily Alfie was kind enough to do a personal demonstration on an Artist Trading Block for me.

Stamp it, stick it , stencil it…no matter how you use flitter glue with the 12 colors of flake available from Indigo Blu you are sure to create a project that truly shines!

After Alfie Flitter Glued my ATB up nicely I stopped by the idea-ology booth to try out some of Tim’s new ephemera offerings and added this “hot product” inspired Artist Trading Block to the display in the Sizzix booth.

Next on my list of products I can NOT live with out is Wendy Vecchi’s Crackle paste.  My obsession for all of Wendy’s embossing pastes continues and I can’t wait to get “Crackle-acking!”

CHA 2014 Recap: Top Product Picks, a Giveaway and More! | Pluckingdaisies.com #CHAShow

And if one must have Wendy Vecchi Crackle and Embossing pastes you’ll NEED all of her new Archival Ink colors to go along with it!  I use Wendy’s Archival Inks like there is no tomorrow.  New Colors?  YES PLEASE!

CHA 2014 Recap: Top Product Picks, a Giveaway and More! | Pluckingdaisies.com #CHAShow

See this chalk paint wall?  This WILL be happening in my kitchen!  The new Martha Stewart chalk paint and coordinating stencil line from Plaid is Fab with a capital F!!  You know how chalk gets all smeary?  Well guess what, Plaid has solved that problem with unsmearable chalk paint that’s also removable with water!  Can’t believe it?  Me either, but I can assure you it is TRUE!

CHA 2014 Recap: Top Product Picks, a Giveaway and More! | Pluckingdaisies.com #CHAShow

Did I mention the Chalk paint is available in all of these lovely colors?

There were many other products I loved but didn’t get a chance to photograph.  However, my girl Anita Houston aka The Artful Maven’s Recap Post  is the cat’s meow!  What she said everyone!  I won’t try to reinvent the wheel because my dear friend Anita has crafted the perfect recap post with fabulous photos, links and all!  I agree with each one of her picks and she has included drool worthy photos for your enjoyment!

CHA Show Workshops

I was pretty busy at CHA but I did manage to squeeze in one workshop with the  Doodling Dive Joanne Sharpe herself!

Joanne is a wonderful and joyful teacher.  I enjoyed her class immensely.  Joanne offers many of her classes online and I highly recommend taking one (or all) of her classes.

This journal page is a sneak peek into one of Joanne Sharpe’s most recent online classes “Draw Your Awesome Life!”

This is one of my pages completed in class…she taught us how to draw a cool daisy!  Made my day for sure!

People you meet at CHA

“They’re the people that you meet when your walking down the street, they’re the people that you meet ‘at CHA'”

I met the YouTube darling Debi Beard of Debi’s Design Diary who invited my friend Johnnie and I to take part in one of her videos.

See me and other top designers do an awkward little dance with Debi’s Design Diary:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_XrxeZ1Rn4&feature=youtu.be

Super stoked to hang with my girl Johnnie from Saved By Love Creations we’ve only really met (for real) twice but it feels like we’ve been friends 4-eva!  Johnnie took  some great pics of the make and take we did at the Ranger Booth and has a video of Tim demoing the new Alcohol Ink colors that you can check out HERE.

I also had the chance to meet the fabulous art journaling/mixed media extraordinaire France Pappilion!   *You can see France Papillon’s Recap post here.

My friend Marjie Kemper also has a great recap post and giveaway (she also took better pictures of all of us at CHA) Marjie Kemper’s Recap post and another one HERE.

On the last day of the show Anita and I took a trip to the most magical place on earth…Disneyland!

CHA 2014 Recap: Top Product Picks, a Giveaway and More! | Pluckingdaisies.com #CHAShow  I got me a Cheshire cat!

Speaking of cool cats, I also had the privilege of meeting these artsy crafty super stars!

Angela Daniel’s “The Guilty Crafter

Margot Potter “The Impatient Crafter”

Mark Montano

Seth Apter “The Altered Page”

Julie Fei-Fan Balzer “Balzer Designs” and “Art Journal Everyday”

Why no pictures?  Eh, I’m not much of a people picture taker.  They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but I’d rather spend those words in conversation than “ruin the mood” by asking for a photo.

I had a riveting 1000 word convo with Mark Montano and Margot Potter about people who throw parties and make their guests take their shoes off.  This my friends is worth more to me than a photograph any day :)

So there you have it!  Who’s ready for a giveaway?  Great!  I’ve got two for ya, so throw your name in the hat for twice the chances of winning!  Tell your friends :)

answer to your question: what will I create?
I’m a stamper so it will be something stamped and I use embossing folders all the time so that will be on my cards.
thanks for the chance to win.

Thanks so much for posting all this great info! I appreciate the links too! I’m so happy for you getting to attend CHA and meeting so many people. I totally get not wanting to ask for photos with everyone – I don’t usually even think about that because I’m more interested in talking to them and it could sometimes seem awkward. But, the pics you did post are great and I think the one of you and the Cheshire cat is adorable! I’m so glad Tim finally brought his ink in the small sizes like other companies have for years. I always buy those small inks so I will certainly get his! Happy to have some new alcohol ink colors too. Thanks so much for the link to Anita’s site because she listed some fantastic items that I have to get! That Hugo’s Amazing Tape IS amazing and the melt and re-use molding compound is a true breakthrough! The others are so expensive because you can’t reuse. This one is more expensive upfront but can be used 35 times!!! So is way cheaper in the long run. This is an exciting time to be a mixed media artist and I appreciate you keeping us abreast of terrific products and projects!

Yeah Anita caught some great products! Stuff I didn’t even see and I was THERE! I agree it IS a fantastic time to be a mixed media artist or any type of artist for that matter. The lines are all blurring together and I think it is fabulous!

Great post! I laughed when you said crackle-aking, I thought I was the only one that still said that! LOL!! I can’t wait to try the Beacon zip dry for making flowers. I use 3-in-1 and fabri-tac all the time and love them. That indigo blu looks cool too. Fun prizes! Thanks for a chance!

What a great post Amy! Alfie and his wife Kay are a real fairy story, starting out a few short years ago in a garden shed and now they are among the top UK stamp manufacturers – really lovely people too – all their products are first class. Can’t wait to get my hands on Wendy’s crackle paste and new archival colours. Thanks for all the links, I will definitely check them all out and thanks too for the chance to win. Hugs, Anne x BTW – you did some good moves in that fun video…

Great round up Amy! Thank you for the link to Joanne Sharpe’s classes. That’s definitely one to go for. I can personally vouch for the IndigoBlu range – the Mega Flakes are superb (LOVE Morris Dance) and stamps are so detailed and beautiful.
It looks like you had an absolute blast at the show and after. Thanks for sharing some of that sparkle with us through your generous giveaways. Jenny x
