Butterfly Stool

by Amy Bowerman

This is my tribute to Ida, who was a dear family friend.  Her daughter,  also a close friend of my family found this stool amidst her belongings.  Ida was a collector of things much like myself and thanks to her I have been able to create many beautiful things with the treasures she saved and passed on to me.  She loved butterflies so that was what inspired my alteration of this once rusty old stool.  Between her collection and my own I was able to breathe new life into something old, paint it blue, and make it unique and just like new!

Altered Art Butterfly Stool

Something old painted blue = Something New!

The Stool was painted with a mix of Krylon Blues and Krylon silver.  You can make the mottled effect by spraying two different colors of Krylon spray paint at once.  To create the butterfly collage on top of the stool I Mod Podged Flowers and butterflies cut from Greeting cards and magazines.  I always seal my work with Krylon UV resist clear sealer….this prevents it from yellowing or chipping.  We don’t want our hard work to go to waste now do we? :)

It’s the perfect time of year for spray painting!  With the arrival of spring comes spring cleaning and you know what that means?  Curbside treasures and Garage Sales galore!  Keep your eyes peeled for roadside rescues and garage sale grabs…all they need is a little love!

Here’s to finding an up-cycling project…have a creative day!
