Hello all! I’m happy to be participating in the annual “Buried Treasure” Creative Blog Hop hosted by Seth Apter of The Altered Page. Seth asks us to share a favorite post (or posts) and dig around in the creative dirt with the other participants in search of Artistic treasure!
I was wracking my brain trying to figure out what posts to share. I asked myself two questions to help narrow the choices down: 1) Why do I consider this project to be a “buried treasure” and 2) Will the project or the meaning behind inspire others?
After asking myself these questions I was able to narrow it down to two projects. The first project was created during my early days of blogging. I was so enamored with the new creative outlet I had found and the ability it gave me to share and gain inspiration from all over the place. I poured my heart and soul into this canvas. Although one of my earlier pieces It is one of my favorites still to this day.
I consider this Tree collage a treasure because of all the meaning behind it. I created this piece for a family member who has since passed away. Not only does it remind me of my love for my family it reminds me of my love for art and why I started this creative journey in the first place.

Next, I wanted to share a project from this year (2013). I had a feeling 2013 was going to be my year and I have yet to be proven wrong. I’ve grown so much these past few months as an artist and art blogger.
At some point along the way I lost the uninhibited ability to express myself artistically. I felt I was just “going through the motions” rather than creating something meaningful like the Tree Collage. I rounded a corner with the coming of the New Year and resigned myself to get back to the basics of creating meaningful things and not just creating “things” for the sake of blogging.
This journal page is a new favorite of mine. It too symbolizes a love of family while showcasing my love of art and creating it.
You can see more detailed photos and step-by-steps on how I created this journal page HERE.
Going back and searching through my creative library for “buried treasure” really showed me how far I have come and how much I’ve learned along the way. The knowledge I have gleaned on this journey goes beyond taking better blog photos and easier to follow technique tutorials. I don’t negate the fact that I HAVE indeed improved those skills along the way but the most important thing I’ve learned is how to grow as an artist and never stop!
I’m so thankful for this community I’ve found through art blogging. I’ve been inspired, encouraged, and instructed by so many of you. The lessons I’ve learned and the creativity that has been awakened in me are more of a treasure to me than anything!
I’m so looking forward to seeing YOUR “Buried treasure”…
