Hey there! Today I have a Baseball Coach Gift Card Holder to share with you using Sizzix dies and embossing folders from Eileen Hull’s new collection “Picket Fence “. The Picket Fence collection is a beautiful garden themed soiree that can be used for projects beyond the potted plant. I’ll be showing you how you can use elements from Eileen’s picket fence collection to make manly gifts for Coaches, Dads, Grads or any Baseball fan in between!
To create this Baseball themed Gift Card Holder I used the Seed Packet Die and Rosebuds and Seed packet Textured impressions.
The embossed seed packet reminded me of a baseball diamond. I embossed a sheet of Tim Holtz “Shattered” Kraft Core from Core’dinations in Vintage Photo to match the reddish-brown hue seen on the pitcher’s mound.
On the back of the baseball gift card holder I placed a quote from Babe Ruth, “Every strike brings me closer to the next home run.” The quote was scrawled on Sticky-back canvas and distressed to look like to outer wrapping of a baseball.
Resting Inside the baseball themed seed packet is a home-made gift card. I like to give my coaches gift certificates to the local package store. After a long season the least I can do is buy them a beer right? I prefer to let them do the choosing. You never can tell if someone prefers a fine wine or a local micro brew. For those that don’t like to imbibe there are fine ground coffees available as well.
A coach gift doesn’t have to be elaborate just a little something to show your appreciation for all the hard work they do and the valuable lessons they teach.
How to Make a Baseball Gift Card Holder
Are you ready to make a nice gift for your coach, dad or favorite grad? Put me in “I’m ready to play!” Don’t worry I’ll “coach” you through each step on the way
*If you don’t have all the supplies you can improvise with whatever you’ve got!
- Seed Packet Die & Seed Packet Textured Impressions (Eileen Hull for Sizzix)
- Core’dinations Cardstock (Tim Holtz Kraft Core Shattered)
- Sanding Grip and Paper Distresser (Tim Holtz Idea-ology & Tonic Studio)
- Distress Ink
- Fiskars Circle Punch
- Wonder Tape (Ranger)
STEP 1: Cut Coredinations card stock (Peeled Paint) with Seed Packet Sizzix die and emboss a sheet of Vintage photo Kraft Core with the Seed Packet Embossing folder.
STEP 2: Sand and distress edges of seed packet die cut and sand raised part of embossed image.
*TIP* Avoid sanding the scored edges of the seed packet die cut or they will weaken when folded.
STEP 3: Fold down score lines and burnish with a bone folder.
STEP 4: The fully embossed seed packet image is to large for the seed packet die cut once folded. Carefully cut out the images you would like to use on the front of your seed packet.
STEP 5: Adhere embossed images with Ranger Wonder Tape or your favorite adhesive.
How to make paper Baseballs
Making paper baseballs is as easy as 1-2-3…there’s no way you can strike out! All you need is a Fiskar’s circle punch, white cardstock and Distress Ink!
1) Punch circles from white cards stock or watercolor paper and edge with Antique Linen Distress Ink.
2) Ink Stampers Anonymous Stitch Stamp with Aged Mahogany Distress Ink and curve to create red baseball stitches. *You can also draw the stitches on with Distress Markers.
3) Add adhesive to the backs of Paper Baseballs and adhere to project. (I used Xyron Create-a-sticker)
For more Baseball themed embellishments cut a piece of sticky back canvas to cover the back of your gift card holder. I used Tim Holtz Movers and Shapers Rectangles Sizzix Die. The medium rectangle is the perfect size!
Ink sticky back canvas with Antique linen, add a favorite baseball quote (I used a Babe Ruth quote), and add more stitching details with Aged Mahogany Distress ink!
Add a fun button to the back of the gift card holder with glossy accents to finish it off with a touch of Americana! Simon Says Stamp and Show told me to “Put a button on it”….so I did
You can make your own custom gift cards using the Sizzix Artist Trading Card Die. I cut a piece of white chipboard and stamped with Tim Holtz Mini Blueprints 2 from Stampers Anonymous and Stampendous Happy Messages set. A stick on button was turned into a baseball by adding stitching detail with Distress Marker.
Coaches, Dads, Grads, and baseball fans all around will be delighted to receive a gift created with America’s pastime in mind. I have a few more gift card holder tricks up my sleeve so stay tuned for more creative transformations using the Sizzix Seed packet die from Eileen Hull’s Picket Fence Collection. I’ll be sharing more tutorials using other elements of the Picket Fence Collection real soon. In the meantime you can check out all the gorgeous dies, folders and more on HERE.
Have a Home Run kind of day!
